TEDx Video on VSED: “Not Here By Choice”

Alan Shacter made several unusual end of life decisions and is a model of dying more consciously. He asked his wife to share his story and his message. In this 17-minute TEDx video, Phyllis Shacter talks compellingly about her husband’s decision to voluntarily stop eating and drinking (VSED) to avoid living in the late stages of Alzheimer’s.

The Art of Living and Dying premieres June 9

  • How can we achieve a less fearful and more conscious death ?
  • How can we live our daily lives in such a way to better prepare us for death ?
  • How important are the qualities of love and forgiveness as the moment of death approaches ?

The Art of Living and Dying, a Global Spirit program, presents a powerful conversation between two dedicated spiritual leaders in the end-of-life movement.  Harpist, singer and lay Benedictine Therese Schroeder-Sheker, who founded the Chalice of Repose Project, joins Frank Ostaseski, the Zen Hospice founder and Director of the Metta Institute, to explore how a more conscious relationship to death can radically shift our experience of life.

The program premieres this Sunday, June 9th, at 8:00pm CT/9:00pm ET on national satellite channel Link TV; DIRECTV Channel 375 | DISH Network Ch 9410. Simultaneously streamed online at  www.GlobalSpirit.tv
